About LAB University of Applied Sciences

LAB University of Applied Sciences is a higher education institution that operates in Lahti and Lappeenranta, in Finland. LAB has 8,500 students and 360 teachers and other staff members, making it the sixth largest university of applied sciences in Finland. It has four faculties: Technology, Design, Business and Health Care. Sustainability focus area is in the core of LAB’s new strategy and strongly linked with the multi-disciplinary co-operation with the Innovations as well as Health and Design focus areas. Design focus area deals with integration of design expertise for economic competitiveness, circular economy and well-being. We create new technologies and digital solutions, as well as innovative systems and practices that promote sustainable material circulation and resource use. By designing sustainable solutions, we support change processes towards more responsible choices, solutions and behavior. As a whole, LAB’s applied research, development and innovation (RDI) activities aim at finding, developing and producing new and improved products, production systems, methods and services. LAB is a part of the LUT Group, with Lappeenranta-Lahti University of Technology.

Materials Technology/Textiles: Recognition and sorting of textile fibres using optical technologies, recycled textiles application development, properties and application testing for textiles

Projects

TELAKETJU 2 - Business from Circular Economy of Textiles 2019-2021

The Telaketju 2 project aims for building business from circular economy of textiles. The scope of the project includes novel circular economy business models aiming for better material efficiency and increase of material and product life, as well as business related to textile recycling.

FINIX: Sustainable textile systems: Co-creating resource-wise business for Finland in global textile networks 2019-2025

The Finix project produces new scientific research on sustainability aspects of textile systems. Based on that Finix helps co-creating resource-wise textile business in Finland in ways that promote global sustainable development.
